Are you unsure if you need to attend a Confidence Building course? Would you like to know more about confidence building and personal impact? Below are some questions and answers relating to all aspects of confidence building.

Do I have to be loud to look confident?

Confidence is not about being the person with the loudest voice. Some of the most confident people are quietly spoken. When appropriate, you can come across with real personal impact and confidence by speaking in a calm and measured voice. Therefore, if this is your preferred style, don't see it as a problem. On the other hand, you could be a naturally loud person who lacks inner confidence. Our confidence building courses are all about exploring your natural style and discovering ways to adapt so that you can appear and become more confident.

What is the difference between Assertiveness and Confidence Building?
We often get asked should I attend an Assertiveness Course or a Confidence Building Course? Confidence is something hidden within you. It helps you to demonstrate the physical traits that enable you to be assertive. Our Confidence Building Courses help you to develop that inner confidence. You will find out why you lack confidence. Once we know the reasons for this we can develop a personal action plan which will help you to develop your self-belief and therefore increase your confidence levels. Our Assertiveness Courses focus on your ability to influence other people or situations. For example; they are about your ability to present yourself assertively in front of a group of people whether that be at a business meeting or a social engagement. Assertiveness can be about dealing with conflict situations and learning how to adapt the way your communicate with people to best influence a situation.
Can you learn to be Confident?
You can learn to be confident as long as you have a focus. What is your aim? Once you know you aim; for example, 'to be more confident at work so that people want to listen to me...', our Confidence Building courses can help you to understand what you personally need to do to achieve this aim. Practising these ideas will then help you to boost your self-confidence and self-belief.
Why are some people more confident than others?
There is no doubt that some people appear naturally more confident than others. For instance, some people are naturally more confident standing up and speaking in front of a group of people or perhaps chairing a meeting. For other people, the idea of being the centre of attention fills them with absolute fear and dread. We are all different but the main thing to remember is that EVERYONE can do it - it is just easier for some than others. You gain confidence by putting yourself outside your comfort zone and seeing others react positively to you. This makes you feel good and more confident. Our Confidence Building courses give you the chance to have a go and practise with the guidance and feedback of a professional facilitator in a non-threatening (& fun!) environment where everyone is in the same position.
How can I be more confident when I am meeting people for the first time?
Being able to enjoy meeting and talking to new people is often about gaining control of your nerves and anxiety. Everyone gets nervous on occasions - some more than others. Nerves and anxiety are issues that we deal with on our Confidence Building courses. In fact to be anxious is a positive thing - it gives you natural adrenalin which everyone needs to come across with more personal impact. If your anxiety shows itself in the form of nerves you will find out on the course. We will help you to curb these nerves so that others don't see them in your behaviour.

Our top tips for being more confident

Looking happy and Confident. You may not feel confident on the inside but if you look confident on the outside it will give you a great confidence boost. The best way to do this is to smile. Research shows that people respond better to people who smile. Also, the act of smiling will enhance your mood. The combination of the two is a great confidence booster.

Eye contact. Avoiding direct eye contact often gives the impression of a lack of confidence, that you have something to hide or you feel uncomfortable. Unfortunately, people who are shy often avoid looking at other people directly in the eye. Meeting someone’s gaze head-on will undoubtedly make you look and feel more confident. This is something you can practise; try holding someone’s stare for a few seconds and then push yourself to keep it for longer.

Saying NO! People who lack self-confidence sometimes let themselves be used by others. Have confidence in your own thoughts and decisions. Learning when and how to say No is a really important part of improving your self-confidence. You can say No 'nicely' with confidence – it will make you feel really good about yourself.

Being bold. Take a deep breath and a step forward. Be the first to volunteer for something or to answer a question. Being in the limelight fills many people with absolute dread and fear. Being comfortable in this sort of situation is all about being confident within yourself. You need to overcome your fear and try to make yourself be bold every now and then. This will not be easy and it will only come with practice but you need to start somewhere and sometime. Be disciplined with yourself - be bold.

Standing tall. The way you stand or sit not only makes a big difference to how confident you look to others but also to how confident you feel inside. Standing tall with your shoulders back and head high not only relieves tension but also makes a person look secure and confident. Standing tall is a simple thing that goes a long way to showing self-confidence.

Preparation. Preparing in advance for something like an interview or giving a speech will make you feel more confident on the day. Good preparation is the key to success. You can anticipate and get to know what is going to happen on the day. Prepare and practise and you will look more confident.

Nobody’s perfect. To be confident you don’t have to be perfect. People tend to obsess about what they don’t like about themselves. People who do this don’t give others much of a chance to notice all the things about them that are great. When self-defeating thoughts start, people need to take a deep breath and move on. Almost everyone feels insecure sometimes, but self-confident people don’t let those doubts control them.

Your appearance. If you look smart and well presented you will feel more confident. It will have an impact on your state of mind if you don’t get enough sleep, eat well or don’t do any physical fitness. Taking care of your body will lift your mood, boost your energy level, and improve your looks making it that much easier to feel self-confident.
